In the heart of New York City, where the community always finds a way to rise up, an emergency initiative has been born that demonstrates true New York solidarity. United Bodegas of America (UBA) has officially announced the launch of “Operation Rescue TSA”.
This program comes as a direct response to the financial crisis faced by Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents, who have spent weeks performing their duties without being paid.
What is the initiative about?
UBA, in conjunction with dozens of supermarkets strategically located near the city’s airports, has established an emergency credit system. The goal is simple but vital: to ensure that no TSA agent has to choose between going to work and putting food on the table for his or her family.
“Bodegas have always been a lifeline in our neighborhoods…. These agents need us and we want them to know we are present and ready to help.” – Fernando Mateo, UBA Spokesperson.
Key Program Details
- Who qualifies: Between 2,000 and 3,000 TSA agents serving at NYC airports.
- How it works: Agents can purchase food and basic necessities under a credit (fiao) system, allowing them to settle their accounts at a later date without a defined payment term.
- Restrictions: Credit is for basic supplies only; no cash will be distributed.
- Location: Available immediately at participating bodegas and supermarkets in Manhattan, The Bronx, Queens and Brooklyn.
Launch and Support Event
To mark the expansion of this program with the integration of large supermarkets, an informative event will be held:
- When: Sunday, 11:00 a.m.
- Where: Los Vecinos Supermarket (987 Amsterdam Ave, NY, NY).
A commitment to those who care for us
TSA agents are essential workers who guarantee the security of our skies and our country. As Radhames Rodriguez, president of the UBA, rightly pointed out, it is unacceptable that these men and women struggle to cover their basic needs while doing their job.
Operation Rescue TSA is not just a credit program; it is the ultimate expression of community. It’s a reminder that in New York, no one walks alone when times get tough.
